Beyond booking podcast guests, the community needed to grow its Discord community directly. Instead of waiting for organic word of mouth among TikTok Shop affiliates, the play was a cold outreach sequence inviting affiliates who had never heard of the community to join.
The list was fully cold. None of the 1,309 affiliates contacted had any prior relationship with the community. There was no existing audience overlap, no warm intro, just an invitation to join a community of peers.
Framing the ask as joining a community of peers, not a business proposition, lowered the perceived commitment. Accepting a community invite carries far less risk than agreeing to any kind of business relationship, which matters when the recipient has never heard of the brand before.
Peer-community framing lowers the barrier to a cold yes more than any business pitch does
Of 84 total replies, 61 were positive, a 72.62% positive-reply rate on a fully cold list with no prior relationship. Every positive reply converted to a new community member.
Community growth runs on the same cold outreach infrastructure as booking podcast guests or closing retainers, sequencing discipline, spintax variation, and deliverability management, just pointed at a different outcome again. The lesson holding across every campaign for this community: framing the ask correctly for the audience matters more than the underlying system, which stays the same.
